The Tús initiative is a community work placement scheme providing short-term working opportunities for unemployed people. The work opportunities are to benefit the community and are to be provided by community and voluntary organisations in both urban and rural areas. The Tús initiative is managed by local development companies for the Department of Social Protection, which has overall responsibility for the scheme.
Ballyhoura Development have an allocation of 4 supervisors and 80 positions under TUS. The first two schemes are nearing full occupancy and Ballyhoura Developpment have progressed to recruitment for a further two supervisors. The two new schemes will enable the TUS programme to have full area coverage across north Cork and east Limerick. The 80 participants will enable communities across the area to receive support with a diverse range of projects from building restoration to renovation, administration, recreation, tourism, festivals and events etc.
